Our Adoption Journey

Dan and I began our adoption in October of 2009, however it is a journey that really began many years ago. About 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy & radiation treatments. After all of my treatments were finished, I was told by my oncologists that I would most likely never have any children biologically. I was also told that if I was able to conceive that it would take at least about five years of trying & that I would most likely need fertility treatments. That was the moment when I believe God first planted the seed of adoption into our hearts. We had decided that we had no desires of pursuing such a long and possibly heart breaking road to becoming parents, so we decided that when the time was right...we would adopt.

Well, little did we know...God had his own plans! Only one month after my last treatment, I became pregnant with our first son. Over the course of four years, we were blessed with two more sons! Right before we had our ultrasound for our youngest son, I looked at Dan & told him, "You know God is going to give us another son...that's how he'll know that we will still have a desire to adopt one day!"

...and here we are! Eagerly awaiting a phone call from our adoption agency, Dove Adoptions International, to find out when our court date assignment will be. When we got our referral for our little girl on October 11, 2010, we were told that it would take 6-8 weeks to get that court assignment. Well, this next Tuesday will be 6 weeks!  Their best guess for when our court date will be assigned is Jan/Feb. When we travel to Ethiopia to go to court, we will spend about a week there. Then we will return home, and wait again to hear when our U.S. Embassy appointment in Ethiopia has been scheduled (which should be about 8-10 weeks later). Then we get to travel back to Ethiopia again, only this time when we return home - we will be returning as a party of three, not two! =)
